The Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music returned to Carnegie Hall on October 14, 2023.
On October 14, 2023 at 8:00 pm, students and teachers from the Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music performed musical pieces on stage for an awe-inspiring show in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The show began when our Master of Ceremonies, Ms. Cynthia Giles and Music Director, Mrs. Valencia Giles, surprised the audience with a duet of spoken word poetry and a composed piano piece. Shortly after, the Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music performers took the stage one performer at a time. The audience was ecstatic and proud. Pianists, vocalists, and violinists of all levels (including special needs students), took the stage and performed with musical excellence. Performers chose a variety of musical selections from classical, jazz, ragtime, pop and spiritual compositions. The performances were emotional, entertaining, funny, classic, lyrical and dynamically expressive. The “Nocturne in B flat Minor by Chopin” performed expressively by pianist Migel Camargo or the beautiful duet, “Double Concerto in E Minor Op 88 by Max Burch,” performed by Sam Beasly and Luca Veni, were just an example of music being performed with excellence. They were connected to their piece emotionally and this showed in each performance. Families from the US and abroad traveled to Carnegie Hall to support the performers on stage. The show was a sold out event!
Mrs. Valencia Giles expressed her joy in a statement, "Many of the attendees were brought to tears as they watched their child perform in this historic venue that hosts famous musicians from all around the world. They were shouting “bravo, bravo” and were emotionally filled with gratitude. Many parents were so thankful that their child was able to experience this special, prestigious opportunity. The memories from that night will last a lifetime. Students will be able to tell their children “I performed at Carnegie in the Weill Recital Hall.”
The closers of the show were Derrick Giles as a pianist performance, Haniel De Ocampo with a voice performance of "Saving All My Love for You", Avianna Radford's, "Don't Rain on my Parade" was excellent and Ms. Kyla Gwyn performed "Praeludium & Allegro" by Kreisler on the violin. With much gratitude, Mrs. Valencia Giles, the owner of the Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music, ended the show by giving certificates of appreciation to guest performers and certificates of excellence to student performers.
Music director, Mrs. Giles, closed the show with the following words:
“I remembered as I stood on this stage tonight that someone once said, ”Good is the enemy of great and love is the enemy of hate.” Tonight, our students did not settle for good, they were great; well prepared and performed beautifully. The love in the room was freely expressed by an audience filled with students of different ethnicities from all around the world. We were overwhelmed by the standing ovations and roaring applause throughout the show. I am so proud of our students, parents, and friends that supported this event.”
Upon returning to Georgia, the Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music planned to celebrate their Carnegie performances with a pizza party at the Lawrenceville location. Students received custom designed Carnegie T-shirts. As they reflect on their performance and professional photographs, they'll honor this special memory at Carnegie Hall for years to come.
We’re thrilled that our students' accomplishments were celebrated in this article. Read Here:
